The cities of Bruges, Leuven and Roeselare are pioneers in this innovative data platform approach. In 2021, different cities in Belgium bundled their forces for the first time to write a tender for a Smart city data platform with a very clear and specific goal in mind. The three cities decided to actively exchange knowledge on several common issues that every central city encounters.
By setting up specific cases on the platform once, other cities can easily join in when they install similar smart solutions in their city. This provides important cost-saving benefits – one of the main generic requirements for the platform.
